The pratfalls began even before the start of preseason practices when the Siena women’s basketball team learned it’s top perimeter threat, senior forward Kelsey Booth, would miss the season after hip surgery.
Then, its expected starting point guard, Brianna Logan, tore an ACL 10 minutes into the team’s first practice in early October, another player gone for the season.
That, along with ineligible players due to a transfer, a redshirt decision and another injury to a freshman, left Siena with eight healthy bodies at this season’s start.
When a reserve player opted to leave the team in early December, Siena was down to seven.
Who knew they would become the Magnificent Seven, that all the adversity would be swatted away like pesky mosquitoes?
