McKeown joked about Hankins’ shoot-first, shoot-often mentality and how men’s coach Chris Collins would rib her for blasting music on the court near his office when she was putting up extra shots after practice.
But more than anything McKeown remembers Hankins’ heart.
“I was walking down the hallways of her high school in Indianapolis. Everyone was talking to her. There’s this group to the side. They all said, ‘Jordan , Jordan, Jordan.’ It was a special needs class she worked with,” said McKeown, whose son Joey is autistic. “I said, ‘J, who are those guys? She said, ‘Coach those are my friends.’ I’ll never forget that moment with her.”
